Blu-Ray and HD-DVD debate
What is Blu-Ray?
Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD) is the name of a next-generation optical disc format. The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. What is HD-DVD? HD DVD is a new optical disc format that stands for High-Definition Digital Versatile Disc. It uses a blue laser, which allows for more data density per disc. So what does that mean? Well, for starters, HD DVD delivers six times the picture resolution of normal DVDs, up to 7.1 channels of high-resolution audio, amazing interactivity and more bonus content than there are movies about unrequited love. And that translates into a truly awesome movie watching experience. So if your neighbor were to ask you, tell him HD DVDs are DVDs on steroids. Really, really good steroids. How much data can you fit on a Blu-ray disc? A single-layer disc can hold 25GB. A dual-layer disc can hold 50GB. To ensure that the Blu-ray Disc format is easily extendable (future-proof) it also includes support for multi-layer discs, which should allow the storage capacity to be increased to 100GB-200GB (25GB per layer) in the future simply by adding more layers to the discs. How much data can you fit on a HD-DVD? A single=layer disc can hold 15GB. A dual-layer disc can hold 30GB. Who wins? Blu-Ray. It can hold more data than HD-DVD on both single and dual layer. Video Resolution(Max) Blu-Ray= 1920×1080 (1080p) HD-DVD= 1920×1080 (1080p) Who wins? It's a tie both formats support 1080P. Audio codecs Blu-Ray= Linear PCM Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-HD HD-DVD= Linear PCM Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-HD Who wins? Neither, both support the same audio. Able to play DVDs Blu-Ray= Yes HD-DVD= Yes Who wins? Neither both can play DVDs Support Blu-Ray= FOX, WB(undecided), Disney, MGM, and Liongates HD-DVD= WB(undecided), Paramount, and Universal Who wins? Blu-Ray, because it has support from 5 of the major movie studios and HD-DVD only has support form 3. Warner Bros. still hasnt picked a side and are releasing their movies on both formats. How much will they cost? Blu-Rays= Movies will cost $25 to $30 HD-DVD= Movies will cost $35 Who wins? Blu-Ray, because there movies are cheaper than HD-DVDS. How much are Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players? Blu-Ray= Cost aobut $500 to $1000 HD-DVD= Costs about $300 to $500 Who wins? HD-DVD, because there HD-DVD players are cheaper than Blu-Ray Who made Blu-Ray and HD-DVD? Blu-Ray= Sony HD-DVD= Toshiba Who wins? Blu-Ray, because it was made by a popular and more trusted electronic company. OVERALL Blu-Rays wins, because it has more support, hold more data than HD-DVD, and was made by a more trusted company. If people think HD-DVD is better, please get some information and prove it.

I like your format.
 Blu Ray will win hads down, One.) It is supported by most Major Movie Studios' and Every PS3 is a Blu Ray player which has boosted their sales tremendously... I think the record now is For ever 3 BLu Ray, 1 HD DVD is sold.... So yEah BLu Ray FTW. |

yea blu-ray is defienetly better but i think it isnt doing that well in sales.but in the long run it will be the beter machine (just like the ps3)

Blue Ray hands down, but I'd never spend the money to get a blue ray player, it's better but come on, there's more to life than a blue ray dvd....
