FIRST: This is a noob free debate. We don't want morons typing "WINDOWS IS BEST THATS FINAL" or insulting other people or denying anything people post. The debate is only closed when I say so, and don't be a moron.
SECOND: Post any evidence you can to support your OS.
Here's a long article to strike a few blows at Windows.

Team Fortress 2 has been tested and runs on Linux with WINE. So does Guild Wars and WoW. So I dunno what you people are whining about "windows is for gaming" when most mainstream games run with Linux on WINE.
EDIT: List any game and i'll tell you if it runes on WINE.

Wait, so if steam and WoW and Guild Wars, and Starcraft and other awesome games work perfectly on Linux with WINE, how come it's not good for gaming?
And Fallout 3 and Counter Strike and EVE...

since when is the main concern for an os being good for gaming?
i know its nice, but there are other things that are important too.
i have a macbook, and run windows on it at native speed, while i can run leopard normally as well.
macs have awesome tech support for one, and those who dont like the interface have obviously not spent very much time on one, because leopard is the best looking os i have found.
i wont comment on Linux because i have never used one, but i plan to get it soon.
i have found that windows is more susceptible to viruses, and macs unfortunately run very few programs in comparison.
i like things like "imovie", "photobooth", "grageband", and the dashboard on macs.
macs have something called widgets on the dashboard, hence, gadgets were born on vista ...i wonder where that idea came from. -_-
i will agree that windows is better for gaming, generally because of compatability with programs, and that macs got a bad rap from the sub-standard video cards in the macbooks previous to, and including, the macbook white.
something thats nice about macs is that most the hardware (internal) comes from apple, while this gives the opportunity for a monopoly of sorts, all the hardware works well together. as opposed to items for windows coming from hp, logitech, gateway, etc. making it much harder for the machine to work for all equipment.
macs are good for some things, and windows is good for others. personally, i think its best to have both.

macs have awesome tech support for one, and those who dont like the interface have obviously not spent very much time on one, because leopard is the best looking os i have found. Windows can use themes to look AND function like leopard, linux, and custom themes.

Good
i have found that windows is more susceptible to viruses, and macs unfortunately run very few programs in comparison. Windows is only susceptible to viruses if you don't have a virus protector. I use a free one called Avira and I've maybe only gotten one virus, which was removed immediatly.
i like things like "imovie", "photobooth", "grageband", and the dashboard on macs.
All have better equivalents on Windows and aren't impossible to get off your computer if you don't like them
macs have something called widgets on the dashboard, hence, gadgets were born on vista ...i wonder where that idea came from. -_- If it's a good idea, then why can't someone else use it? And besides, widgets, dashboards, etc. have been available for windows computers since windows 2000.
i will agree that windows is better for gaming, generally because of compatability with programs, and that macs got a bad rap from the sub-standard video cards in the macbooks previous to, and including, the macbook white. And the fact that you can't upgrade your mac without special mac made products that are 3 times more expensive then their windows counterparts.
something thats nice about macs is that most the hardware (internal) comes from apple, while this gives the opportunity for a monopoly of sorts, all the hardware works well together. as opposed to items for windows coming from hp, logitech, gateway, etc. making it much harder for the machine to work for all equipment. Are you kidding me? The machine does not have to work hard to use parts from different companies. The downside of all of their products coming from apple is that its alot more expensive because they are the only vendor.
macs are good for some things, and windows is good for others. personally, i think its best to have both.Or just windows..but whatever.

give me some of the ways of making windows look like leopard
yes, less parts to it, less in it
you can get internal parts for macs cheap at circuit city, they were recently bought out and are beter for internal stuff.
i met someone today who burned out three power sources in the last month because of the different companies all making stuff that the puters have to comprehend
what programs like garageband, and photobooth?
i dont even feel like addressing the rest, for we will always argue about this, i just say, get everything. :/

Buying from Apple is completely pointless.
A mac IS a PC, apple had to switch to intel so that they could dual boot into windows because their OS doesn't support many programs.
If you like the mac os just build your own pc then buy the leopard os.
@ ellios, lets say I wanted to play a little Elder Scrolls Arena, would wine run that?
No, but DOSbox would.

Bioshock is supported. :D
World of conflict is GOLD!
Crysis is silver.
1.71 is silver.
SILVER = it runs but there may be a few glitches if you screw around with settings too much.
Gold = There will be no real problems, except maybe a GFX glitch.

I already said, themes.

What?

i met someone today who burned out three power sources in the last month because of the different companies all making stuff that the puters have to comprehend It is not because of hardware compatibility that those PSUs burnt out, it is the quality OF the power supply that made it fail.

What?

I just found this on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaDd2vOzPaw
The guy is playing TF2 with similar I do hardware except his runs like crap at lower settings.
My specs E6300 1.86ghz @ 3ghz
9600gt
My processor is a bit better than his but it shouldn't show much of a difference because I believe he has 2 more mb's of L2 cache.
His graphics card is also about 15% faster than mine.
Now look how low the framerate is and how buggy it is.
It runs a hell of a lot better on my vista pc.
The low framerate and the occasional framerate drop are caused by the screencasting program!
^^^^^^^^^^
Eiliosdraye

TF2 uses 20% of the power of my graphics card, I actually get a framerate boost when I use a screen recorder because it forces the my computer to make more use of my graphics card.
Linux fails.
Because it can't run one game as fast as Vista it fails.
You lose. Good day to you sir. You should at least be aware that it's a small tradeoff for the fact that people lose framerate when they run a screen recorder linux, compared to what you get. With windows you have to have antiviruses on all the time because everybody hates Microsoft.

Did you read the part in the comments where he's running it in Dx8?
Running it in Dx8 makes it lag alot less, yet he still lags.

Yes, that is why I brought up Dx8

Lmfao the screen recorder has nothing to do with it, their ran on the GPU, and his computer has plenty of gpu power to spare.
Even if his screen recorder does need some cpu power thats no problem! The source engine only optimized 1 cpu core so that leaves 50% of his cpu left to do the video.
Linux
Fails
For
Gaming
I have TF2 specs on my PC, and i'm sure as hell pawngame takes less specs then TF2, but yet when I run a screen recorder on pawngame it's a slideshow.
Could it mean the screen recorder could have lagged? Who knows, but what also might be noted is TF2 is an extremely hardware extensive game, and to expect it to run as fast as Vista, which was made to run that crap and NOT to have security(it's crapware), is unreasonable.
*definition of Crapware.
Crapware is bloated software with so much useless stuff and very little useful features.
Eiliosdraye
01-11-2009, 07:32 PM
Pawngame is ran off your internet connection mostly.
And I lol'd at you saying TF2 is an extremely hardware intensive game.
Recommended system requirements for running the game at reasonablly high settings is a P4 @ 3.2ghz and a nvidia 6600
Also ellios, even if the stuff vista is running is crapware, your saying it's more efficient at running it? That makes me wonder, if it's better at running stuff you don't need, don't you think it'll run stuff you do need better?
Vista comes packed with AERO, and so much useless software "deals" they made for a quick buck, and you can't uninstall it. However, Vista was made to run the games that it supports, and therefore they bought out those companies to use DirectX which is a horrible idea because it shuts off a fairly large percentage of the marketplace. If however they ported their games to OpenGL companies would make MUCH more as they would have mac users and linux users, as well as microsoft users.
Another thing to note: Most people don't have gaming PCs, so they don't want to run games that take too much. I can run oblivion just fine but I can barely run TF2.

Hi, i'm satan, but you can call me Microsoft. I like forcing other companies to only use DirectX forcing people to switch to Windows, I also like making deals with third world companies to only use Windows so that people have to buy windows for 27 US dollars, which is about 7 months salary for most people there.
Eilios.. this is a quote that will do you some good.
"Stop messing with linux and realize that it's going no where."
-Smart dude.

Damn your poor foo, I can make 27 bucks while takin a dump.
I make about a million dollars a day but I still don't give the people in third world countries 27 dollar software cause every dollar counts.

Time to ask a question
Why SHOULDNT you use vista?
every pre-built computer with vista has enough ram to handle it lag-free, and the people who ustom theirs know enough not to put in 1 gb of ram for vista.
get service pack 1 and its runs perfectly fine fools

He has the right idea, just because Vista is laggy, asks useless crap, has horrible programs, you have to pay thousands of dollars to get a decent word processor, is almost as expensive as a Mac, and has worse security then a wooden shack, doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it!

Just installed ubuntu tonight it blows @ss.
Startup time is about 3 minutes compared to 40 seconds in vista.
Downloading graphics drivers is a pain in the @ss.
I uninstalled it.
Fail.
I have Ubuntu, I know it only takes like 30 seconds to start up. And just because it's annoying to install drivers doesn't mean it's bad. Compare it to Winblows with no security, bloated crapware, and a horrible tech support and you'll see which one is better.
To Brohana: Free BSD is good but it's underused so I won't put it here. Most people are Windouches or iTards.

I have security, no crapware, and don't need tech support.
Security is fun if you don't have to be bothered by it every time you run something.
Winblows comes "Prepackaged" with useless stuff nobody ever uses, and crap games that you have to manually uninstall because they "come with the OS", or pay for to run. I cleared 2-3 gigs of crap "games" that nobody plays because they're preinstalled but uou still have to buy.
