View Full Version : Rivers for MVP?

Rivers was snubbed for the Pro Bowl, and now, it seems he isn't getting much consideration for MVP - which is ridiculous in my opinion.
There are three things to be considered in each MVP debate:
Statistics
His value to his TEAM
Where his team is currently (playoffs, miss, etc.)
Now, let's take a look at Philip Rivers:Statistics
Passer Rating: 105.5
NFL Rank: 1st
Touchdowns: 34
NFL Rank: T-1st
Interceptions: 11
NFL Rank: (among Top 5 QB's) 1st
Passing Yards: 4,009
NFL Rank: 5th
Value to Team
Down the stretch, it is clear that the play of Chargers QB Philip Rivers is the main reason for the Chargers comeback. Over the the course of the Chargers four game win streak that has led them to the playoffs, Rivers has thrown ELEVEN touchdowns with ONE interception. In what is considered a down year for the Chargers other offensive stars like Ladainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates, Rivers has stepped up to have the best season of his career.
Team Status
The Chargers, largely due to the play of their QB, have come back after starting the season 4-8 to win their division for the third consecutive year.
Agree or disagree?

He has been doing good this year. We will just have to find out.

I'd take Chad Pennington. The Chargers were EXPECTED to make the playoffs, but caught some bad breaks early. No one, not even the most die hard Dolphin fan would expect their team to be where they are at this moment.
Sure his stats aren't record breaking but that's not what MVP should be.
3,653 Yards(9th)
19 TD's(12th)
7 INT's(4th Fewest)
67.4% Completion(1st)
Also take into account that Rivers has actual weapons on his team(Chambers,LT,Gates). Who did Pennington have? Ted Ginn Jr, a 2nd year player, some backup TE's from Dallas, Davone Bess an undrafted rookie, and he still put up some goddamn impressive numbers, not to mention leading one of the greatest single season turnarounds in NFL history. From one win in 07 to 11 and hosting a playoff game? Who else can be more deserving?
Without Pennington, the Fins are a 5 win team AT BEST. This is what Most VALUABLE Player should signify.
Rivers is Cutlers tool
Long Live Ryan!

I wouldn't give it to Ryan, he did good, but Michael Turner would be more deserving on the Falcons, as a good ground game is very helpful to any QB >.> He's gonna get Rookie of the Year anyway :O

Peyton is a panzy and pennington would rather sit on the football vertically then throw it
Manning, winning last 9 or 10 is more impressive.
If rivers is so great, why the hell are the Chargers 8-8 with that much talent?

Well, he won it already. But what Pennington did down in Miami or Ryan in Atlanta is a hell of a lot more impressive than what Manning did. 12-4 was expected of them. No playoff expectations for Miami or Atlanta.

The colts started slow and had a bunch of injuries. Addai, Harrison, and Clark were out much of the season. He WILLED them to win. they won thir last 9. He deserved it in my opinion lol.
