i am still generaly new to gfx (about a month of having gimp)
but these hare what i have done recently

Actually really good for being so new to Gimp.

I would suggest trying out c4ds, they will help you improve.

lol i am try to stay away from c4ds
don't like the look and if i do use them i usually rape my sigs

Lawl.

You have to know how to use them; set them to screen, etc.

There are some artists who tend not to use c4ds, which gives their sigs more of a natural feel.

o i know how to put the layer modes on or else i wounlnd't have been able to do those tuts

take the text and white design this off of the muse on

the second one isnt bad for being new to gimp

oh and the best advice u will ever get for sig making(this is about what sketchz said to me: you cant get any better until you learn that you need to make the render acually fit into instead of just dropping a render onto a backround

read some more tuts...and make sure they come from a high novice tag...lol

Second one is the best of them imo. But the first one test fails. Nice for just starting out on gimp. Try using some c4ds and smudging. Also try adding more effects besides brushes.
