graffiti: Art or Crime?

alright i think this shud be a good poll. Graf art: art or crime? personally, i love graf art. i will actually take pics of them and post them online. i am even angered when paint over it. its not hurting anything! i am even considering doin my own graf work. if that makes me a criminal, good. when i get the paint 2 do it, ill post it 4 u all 2 c, but 4 now, lets hear your opinoins on Graf ART.:)

Anything that looks trashy and got spiffed up by graffiti is not crime IMO.
It's doing the owner a favor.

i think graffiti makes u feel a freedom u dont get until u do it, which i have. your heart beats fast,adrenaline pumping as u write your feelings across the lifeless white wall. it makes u feel impowered and unstopable. after i graffed, i felt i could take a knife in the chest and walk out okay. its a amazing feeling...close 2 undiscribeable
graffiti is also a big part of our culture, whether u admit it or not

It is art but it is a crime if you do it in the wrong spot. Here in melboune it is aloud in certain areas and it it considered art. but melbourne is a werid place.

If graffiti was performed on private property, it is considered vandalism therefore being a crime. However, if its not on private property, its not a crime

Keep it to paper/canvas or become a professional mural painter. No need to sneak around doing stuff that people don't want you to do in the name of "art". 99.9% of the population thinks graffiti is detestable, so why even bother anyway? Keep your art to a demographic of people that respect it instead of forcing it upon everyone's eyes.

There are some owners that let people graffiti on the out side of the building as long as it is tasteful, and there are some place that have walls just for artist to use.

Your countries must be so boring. It is not such a crime here like i said before. Some areas you can do it. Some graphiti is heritage listed and can be removed also because of the murders and things that took place and they are still using it as evidence of somthing.
But yea melbourne alows it but if its like not appropraite you get a fine and in a restricted area.

To me, it's both. I've done graffiti for like... 2 months or more I forgot cause I haven't done it in a while. There are legal places in the world where you can tag on the walls but most places are illegal. It's art if you do it on paper or on legal places but a crime to break the rules: Tagging in illegal places. It costs clean up people to remove them or the person who gets caught in doing the act.

It depends on where you live. Because every place has it's own laws and rules. But personally, I think it's both.

well i went to NYC by train ffrom NJ and i saw alot of graffiti in the tunnels
i personally liked it cuz it kept me occupied and some of it was really good :D

I hate graffiti, it's one of the worst types of crimes - the ones with little value, so you think it's fine to do. The next thing you know you're tagging for some gang, then you're stealing, assault, robbery, and jail.

It happened to one of my classmates. He got put in jail for a month because he got into some gang.


Besides, most of the graffiti here where I live is some moron making an ugly logo for their gang, or people writing swears in big bubble text. If the grafitti where I lived actually looked good I might consider it bearable, but no, it's like a piece of trash in the middle of a finely cut yard.

not all gangs r bad dude. they dont all do assault or robbery but the main reason gangs r made or people join them is becasue they have bad parents or no friends and will do anything 2 be accepted or loved
i know wat u mean about bad graffiti tho. its people just gettin up and they dont no wat they doin also called "toys" they make the worst types of graffiti and thats the one of reason people dont like it

Depends on where you do it. And it also depends on what message your putting out. Most graffiti happens in big cities and is done my ghettos, and they're usually making graffiti about demoralizing stuff like rape and gang violence and crime and all that.

i was drivin in downtown cleveland and 4 the first time noticed how much graffiti there was where i live. and it looked really good. i wanna learn how these guys get in these heavan spots. there always in the perfect place where you would normally look but then u look and there the graffiti.

I say it's art, we don't have lots of designated areas here, and besides most of our "graffiti" is just lots of swear words or soccer team cheers. But i think we have a guy, Mahmoud Barakat who qualified as a professional.

Still, i would really be pissed if someone sprayed KOS OMAK on my wall. (means your moms thingy)

Graffiti is not always a crime. Its a crime if its on private properry/ government owned property. Its not legal to right PUFFER SUCKS on a broken down train, but its legal to do it on your own property: if ur an idiot.
