Development
Saw V was written by Patrick Melton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Melton) and Marcus Dunstan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Dunstan),[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-LionsgatePubSawV-3)[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-igninterview-4) and the film went into production after Christmas 2007.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-moviesonline-5) Filming began on March 17, 2008 in Toronto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto)[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-OfficialSawNews-0), and principal photography concluded on April 28, 2008. Saw V finished filming by May 2, 2008 and had started post-production.[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-6)[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-OfficialSawNews-0) So far, there have been three photos released of David Hackl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hackl) at the set of Saw V.[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-7) The first trailer, depicting Agent Strahm's box trap, was released at Comic-Con (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comic-Con_International) 08 as of a short clip and the trailer was also shown before The X-Files: I Want to Believe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_X-Files:_I_Want_to_Believe).[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-8)[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-Comiccon-9) The website opened on August 6, 2008 but only led to the teaser trailer after filling out the basic information chart. On September 17th, a new clip was available on the Saw V website, depicting the Pendulum Trap. Starting on September 29th, Myspace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myspace) began posting advertisements on their website about the movie. Also on September 29th, the website opened officially with other things besides just the trailer.
Plot details
The plot details have not yet been revealed, although in an interview with IGN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IGN), Patrick Melton revealed that Saw V will explain what happened to Corbett (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinhart_family#Corbett), the daughter of Lynn Denlon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinhart_family#Lynn_Denlon) and Jeff Reinhart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinhart_family#Jeff_Reinhart), following the conclusion of Saw III that left her in danger.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-igninterview-4) An interview with Tobin Bell revealed that the origins of Billy the puppet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_%28Saw%29) and his red tricycle would be further explained after having the story's roots planted in Saw IV.[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-SawVBilly-10) Also, in an interview on June 13, 2007, Tobin Bell teased that he would not be surprised if the character of Cecil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Saw_characters#Cecil_Adams) made a reappearance, and that the pieces of flesh taken from the victims in the form of a jigsaw puzzle might be explained.[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-MovieWeb-11)
According to director David Hackl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hackl), one trap can potentially kill the actor meant to be placed in it, and so paramedics will be standing by while filming; Hackl joked that the trap would truly test the actor, just like Jigsaw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jigsaw_Killer) tests his victims.[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-bloody2-12) Later in an interview discussing this trap in Saw V, David Hackl revealed that Scott Patterson's character, Agent Strahm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Saw_characters#Peter_Strahm), would be placed in the trap and Hackl called the trap 'the most dangerous' and 'elegant in its simplicity'; it was later shown in a picture that the trap would be filled with water.[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-MovieWebInt-13)
There will be a total of seven traps (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_traps_in_the_Saw_film_series#Saw_V) in this film.[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-MovieWebInt-13)
In the Saw IV DVD commentary, Darren Lynn Bousman stated that the glass box trap (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_traps_in_the_Saw_film_series#Saw_IV),[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-saw4glasstrap-14) which was originally planned to be used in Saw IV, will be further explored in Saw V.[16] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-saw4commentary-15) The glass trap was only shown, not used, in the final cut of Saw IV.
Lionsgate recently released a brief plot synopsis for Saw V that "Hoffman is seemingly the last person alive to carry on the Jigsaw legacy. But when his secret is threatened, Hoffman must go on the hunt to eliminate all loose ends."[17] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-16)
According to the producer, a theme of the film will be teamwork and it will thematically be like the original Saw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_%28film%29). [18] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-17)
In an interview with IGN, Julie Benz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julie_Benz) said that the character of Brit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Saw_characters#Brit) is a real-estate developer and that the character is corporate like a thorough-bred race-horse. She also revealed that this is the first film about which she ever had a nightmare.[19] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-18)
Release
The film will be released in Australia on October 23, 2008,[20] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-releasedates-19) in North America and the United Kingdom on October 24, 2008,[20] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-releasedates-19)[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-LionsgatePubSawV-3) and in New Zealand on October 30, 2008.[20] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-releasedates-19)
Opening sequence
A clip of the opening sequence was shown at Comic-Con 2008 and added to the film's official website on September 17, 2008. A man named Seth awakens to find himself chained to a table, looking up at a razor-edged pendulum on the ceiling. A videotaped message from Billy reveals that Seth had been sentenced to life in prison for murder, but was released on a technicality after five years. The pendulum descends toward him as it begins to swing; after 30 seconds it will be close enough to touch his skin, and after 60 seconds it will cut him in half. Seth is told that in order to save himself, he must "destroy the things that have killed — your hands" by inserting them into two presses and pushing the starter buttons inside. He does so, the presses crushing his hands, but the pendulum continues its descent. The clip ends at the 50-second mark when the title card comes up; Seth's fate is left unrevealed.[21] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_5#cite_note-20)
