1400 dollars can get you a top notch gaming desktop.
I can get you the parts for one if you tell me what kind of games you plan on playing.
Btw don't buy a laptop for gaming, they overcharge by sooo much and yo uget like 1 hour of battery life.

Mostly FPS games such as CoD4, CSS, etc.
Some MMO's thrown in there.

I would suggest going with beans set-up. he has a good one. But if your were to go for a gameing laptop and insist on a laptop over a deekstop.. Go with toshiba. there known for there compatiblity with gaming gfx cards. and there is a few the run around 1-1400. Make sure its got at least nvdia 8800 in it.

Cod4 will run nicely on a 8800 GS/ 9600 GSO.
Css and other source games will run on anything so don't worry about having a good enough computer for that.
I might as well ask if you plan on playing Crysis, if you do then it's going to cost a bit more but your system will have a much longer lifetime.
Also would you be fine with a dual core, or would you prefer a quad core?

No!!! Don't get nVidia, unless you have an amazing power supply, or it could freeze often! Either get an ATI card or a good power supply.

600 watt should run 1 8800 GT.

600 Watt is insane...you shouldn't need that much power to run a decent graphics adapter.

For gaming you really only need a core 2 duo because most engines don't even utilize four processors yet and a quad core would be a waste, basically.

Your thread states no parts.
Broken, thats for the 8 series, 9 series cards run much more efficiently.
I can run 2 9600 GT's on a 600 watt, or one on a 450 watt.
Anything under about 400 is useless if you wanna run the good cards.
Plus NVIDIA cards always have better drivers than ati cards, even though they have more raw power.

9 series = re-branded 8 series
And I'm not sure why you would buy an Nvidia card over an ATI/AMD card over drivers because they work fine for both and there's nothing more to it than working reliably
Yea...so just go to ibuypower.com and get a customized pre-assembled pc since you probably can't build one yourself

Some of the 9 series cards are rebranded 8 series, such as the 9600 GSO, 9800's.
But to my knowledge the 9600 GT is new, it's about 10% slower than a stock clocked 8800 GT and you can overclock it to be faster
Plus if your on a budget the 9 series cards give great performance.

Alienware will overcharge you by thousands of dollars.
Build your own system, or use that link Apache gave to customize your own.
For cod4, you'll want at least an 8600 GT (8800 GT or the 3870 from ATI) , with a core 2 duo clocked at 2.0ghz.
If you go with the ATI card pick out a motherboard with crossfire
If you go NVIDIA pick out a motherboard that's SLI enabled.
Btw you want ram at 880 mhz.

maybe you should get a hp computer like something nice like my comp was like 600 bucks you should get one in that range
Alienware is fail.
I disagree :(
I own an alienware laptop, and I love it. Albeit, they're only really good when you customize them completely, which takes a good bit of cash, so in a way, you're right. I could just build a comp for cheaper, but I'm slack :/

You can make a good gaming computer, but your really paying 1.5k more for the brand.
nah. 1.5k is a little exaggerated, don't you think? I'll admit i'm paying a couple 100 more, but you get a bunch of cool alienware gear when you buy a comp. I wear my alienware baseball cap every day :)

If I bought a gaming computer from HP, I could probablly build it for about half the price.
Now if you buy from alienware, your also buying a brand name gaming computer with all these fancy lights.
That = to more than half.
So add in the cost of the alienware hat/mousepad, and theres what you would have paid for it if you made it.
