View Full Version : Bailout - For or against
Pretty simple, are you for or against the bailout? Please explain your stance, don't just put one word.

For me, I'm mostly against it. There is no reason the American taxpayers should pay to bailout stupid people. Those certain few who decided not to pay their mortgage should be evicted, the house should be put up for sale by the bank, and the bank brass fired (Without compensation) for their stupidity. We also need a set of regulations for lending. There needs to be a rulebook of when banks can, or cannot give out money. Someone with 3 evictions and an unsteady job has no reason to own a house. They are obviously not capable of that responsibility. However, i do understand that whats done is done, and a bailout may be necessary to jump-start the credit market back to normal, but i think it needs to be thought out thoroughly and implemented flawlessly. There is no room for error or green when we are dealing with a possible recession or god forbid a depression.
I also would like restraint by credit card companies. Instead of giving cards to everything the breathes, use some common sense and screen people. And if someone is a few months behind on their bills, SHUT OFF THE DAMN CARD. Don't let them get further and further into debt because it benefits you. Your already making enough interest as it is.
To be honest, i don't believe the housing market, nor the economy is really as bad as were being told. I really think that if the media would not have said a thing, no one would have noticed, and people would be spending like they always did. By giving us these doomsday news stories, and scaring spenders out of their clothes, your only hurting the economy worse. Ratings should never be traded for a recession.

Against...
Same for me as for you, though..
My dad worked his way up really hard and now we are high middle class...
Just because people won't pay doesn't mean we should have to...

I'm against it for many of the reasons you guys are.
The bail out might jump start the economy, but I certainly don't want my parents paying to bail out these greedy companies, when they could have actually been doing what they're supposed to do instead of giving a loan out to every little idiot who requests one.
There are other ways to help get the economy back on track, it's time we looked at them.

I really don't know much about it.
All I've heard was that the government would spend 700 billion dollars.
But if its anything like bailing out Bear Stearns or w/e then it doesn't sound to appealing.

I'm against it.
All the same reasons your against it but also because its a huge add-on to the national debt that is already 10.7 trillion.
See, what they don't tell you when they say their gonna spend this money on something is that they don't actually even have the money. Bush and Congress don't actually even have 700 billion dollars. Their just gonna borrow the money and add 700 Billion to the already 10.7 trillion debt.
And btw. Your parents aren't gonna be paying for this bailout. YOU are!

screw the bail out <.<
its just telling the big companies its ok to mess up, its ok to loan money to people that can't pay it back, that the government will just come along and help you, but at what cost? The government will just raise taxes, and if the companies don't learn, the stupid will borrow money again.....
of course the ironic thing is, if the bail out did or didn't happen, i don't think its helping ether way xD

I agree with Greb. Plus, if they were to implement this, the treasury secretary would have almost complete control of all 700 billion, putting a lot of power into his hands.
Not to mention, in a capitalist economy, if you buy something you also have the benfits that it may increase in value, or go down. The risk is something everyone takes, if the government bails them all out, its not a good thing for the economy. Everyone is supposed to consider this when they buy a house, if they didn't, they're stupid.

Not right now. I say after the election. I would rather see it taken place after because it would be a great amount of responsability for the new president.
BUT, now would have been great. you can do alot with for the economy with $700 billion.

a bail out would not be a good idea, it would temporarily relive the slump in stocks, but wait a few months and we are back in the same situation. The worst part is the terms on which Paulson is demanding the funds. He basically wants an opaque deal where $700 billion are just given to the failing companies with no promice of return or any accountability. this would be a terrible investment for the government and in the end it would just drive up inflation causing more buisnesses to go under. George Bush needs to stop throwing money around and get spending under control, inflation has increased derastically since he took office which has driven the value of the dollar through the floor causing priceses in the US to rise for everything from gas to baked beans.

Against.
My uncle is losing his house, but that's his fault for not sending payments. He hasn't been evicted because of the many people getting kicked out, though.
