Death is a pretty good band, I'm just not that into the vocals, though he is great at what he does. Its still a hell of alot better than the metal that's out now. As for the best metal band, I really don't have a 'best' but I have a few great ones. (in no particular order)
1.Death
2.Iron Maiden
3.Judas Priest
4.Helloween
5.3 Inches of Blood
6.Black Sabbath (what started it all :D)

I think Green Day is more of Alternative Rock, but meh. I'm not a huge fan(atic) about metal.
