View Full Version : Java runtime environment not letting me install >_<
I'm trying to open limewire (already downloaded and installed it) and it says I need Java Runtime Environment 5. I go to the Java website, download the installer, try to open the installer, and it won't let me.
The pop-up says "The installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."
Anyone know what the crap is wrong?

I used that link already, tried both online and offline versions, and neither worked. I got the same message for both.

Right click the start up button and click explore.
Find the Java file.
After you find it open it.
It should work from there on out.
Tell me if it still dosn't work.

When it opened I got some license stuff and 3 folders labeled bin, lib, and javaws. Is there some specific thing I have to open to make it run?

Hmm...I found something called Executable Jar File under the applet folder...is that it? I can't open it.

I get a pop-up saying "Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute from C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\lib\applet\WMPNS.jar"
I'm using an administrator account so that's not it.
It could be that I don't have the right programs to install it. Like I had to download winrar to download limewire.

I opened jucheck and downloaded the update but I got the same pop-up (what I had in the beginning) when I tried to install it.

no. it's illegal if you use it for copyright infringement like most people do, but he never said he planned on doing that. before you download limewire you agree not to use it for copyright infringment. BTW, you were not even close to being on topic.

Mkay...I've been looking through that site and I tried downloading the offline version again. I got a different message saying "Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid."
I should be looking at the errors for JRE 1.4 right?

Sorry to say it but I don't think that was the solution. I tried it and I still got the original pop-up. Plus that's for JRE 1.50 and JRE 6.0 and I think I have JRE 1.4
Maybe I'll just use iTunes.

In other news: JRE AND JDK are two different packages. JRE is for the basic running of Java applications and JDK comes with javac and other Java development applications.
