View Full Version : How To Prepare For A Fight?

Hey guys, I think I have a fight coming up this friday and its a pretty even match, I have been in several fights before but I never really feel prepared, any advice on things like food or exercises? and yes, I will post the video if it goes down no matter the outcome.

Yep, street, I'm 5'10, 155 pounds, 15 years old, and have an athletic build, this kid is 6'1, about 125 pounds, 16 years old, basically a stick man, but lots of experience.

Yes...i have some advice.



Stay fit. This will gice you a figthing chance. Practice. During the fight,use forearms and knuckles to block. If you have allies, have them corner your opponet. Discourage them some how. If the become discouraged, the will be weaker. Think positive. Be optimistic. Stall. Try to stall hits by talking. Sometimes, the opponent will focus on your words...not your fists. keep your tumb on the outside of your fist. If you punch hard enough will your thumb inside yo fist...it's broken. Aim for 4 places: nose,cheek,lower jaw, and gut.

I like the kid I'm fighting, but its a serious fight and some ones probably walking / being carried away with a broken bone or two, we arent fighting for any reason other than we both love fights

All i have to say is that just aim for the nose on your first hit and then hit them in their mouth. Sure enough you will win. :)

If I were you I wouldn't fight. It's barbaric. You said it yourself, you have no reason to fight the other guy. Whether you beat him or he knocks you out, it won't prove a thing.

Actually Sadistic is pretty normal. His friend however is very disproportionate. I'm going to be a bit Sadistic myself, and encourage Sadistic to go through with it. Mostly because I feel fights are important to growing up. Barbaric-wise, Sadistic is going to spar with a friend. He isn't even going to be cheap like most fights today and use some object to claim a win. It's Classic bare-knuckle like the old school days where you win and lose, but at least you didn't die. I would say that's pretty controlled.

Can't pass on a opportunity such as this, because their aren't many. I'm just amazed he can fight a friend in the first place, since most tend to hold back. As far as preparation goes Sadistic, there isn't much you can do in that short time span. If you are looking for feeling prepared, then I would say you eat a good, big, nutritious breakfast. Since the moment you wake up you're going to start using up energy, and it's good to have all that energy ready to go. For Exercise I say do something to warm yourself up, maybe run for 30 minutes and then stench. Your muscles are elastic, so working on them from dead-cold is bad, which is why it's better when they are warmed-up first.

Mentality - wise, honestly is don't believe you're Invincible. To be frank, those are the types that are normally beaten the quickest first. I say just go in there for the sake of becoming better and to learn. This way you won't go with an inflated ego,only to make you fall down that much harder.

well first off, u want to make sure u have speed. without speed ur nothing. (unless ur super strong) take at least one class of Brazilian jujitsu cuz some dude took one class of that and then he kikd some kids azz. other than that, dont worry, if its a friendly fight then just have fun. ignore the punches cuz they really wont hurt during the fight, ull feel it after though. i personally h8 fights, but i always talk to them first like a MAN (fighting doesnt make u a man, its just a waste of time) and usually it just ends up without a fight. i have been in my share of fights though. :D

I have been eating the same things I normally would, just so my body doesn't feel any different, but I have been stretching for about 30 minutes every day along with a couple of push ups sit ups and leg raises just to keep them working right and get out all the stifness from being a computer nerd, I am already not expecting to win, the kids way more experienced than me, I just want to be able to keep calm and hopefully get lucky

like all my fights have been on the ground with some hair pulling [beep]. So get used to getting taken down by fatties. :\

and learn to hit without breaking ur hand on someones face or knee or elbow, cuz it's pain that doesn't go away easily.

go for the chin, jaw and temple. i've knocked out gurls cleaner that way, and they don't say much when u do.

Straight punch to the left temple, yes left.
Knee to jaw, straight foot chest. Work the left knee, yes left.
(Straight punch because haymakers are like straight from you, if hes taller you'll be going up a bit :p)

also, if your losing badly, go barfight style on him.

so like get your right hand and then swin front wards insted of trying to get alot of force andf swinging side ways

with this jab if you do quick enough he won't be able to block

Thanks skullbad, I definitely intend to take this one to the ground, I have about 4 years experience in Judo wich is all grappling, and that takes away his reach advantage, its just more fun to go toe to toe for a while :)

Take downs are efficient, but crappy for you if you do it wrong(aka, break his spine, get sued, juvie till 18 then prison) or you end up hurting your arm doing it and he slaughters you.
Or his skull hits j00r right big toe and makes j00 hop aroun' while he swings roundhouses at yer throat.

I used to kickbox, i didn't get far though since i can't pull my punches well.
Keep your feet moving, this works well:

Squat, keep your back straight, lift your heels off the ground, and jump. If you perfectly return to that posistion, you'll begin to feel the burn within 15 jumps.

Here's what i do for Tennis:
60 Reps of Squat-Jumps
Sprint 50 Yrds, Sprint back
60 Reps of Squat-Jumps
Sprint 50 Yrds, Sprint back
50 Push-Ups
Done

^
Minimum

That should make you a little more agile.

Cover your damn nose. Thats all I can say man. COVER YOUR DAMN NOSE! In my neighborhood, we get together every other day at lunch for some boxing. It's like 30 people. Mostly teenagers (like me) box though. I have learned that kidney shots are just as effective as facial shots, but you have to use tequnique. Punch up and in just under his ribcage in order to get an effective kidney shot. And when taking facial shots, go for quick but effective jabs to the mouth and nose. If you have an open shot take a right hook. But remember to COVER YOUR NOSE!!!!!!!

so hes going to sue both hands to block his nose, an insignificant feature ina fight, and kick? he ain't A TKD specialist.

If hes choking you out pressure points is the way to go ether way boxing is the other way to go which I do. (Also I choke out people >:D)

i prepare by asking myself these questions

is he alone?
if not alone: how much backup did he bring?
if more than 2 for his backup: where are the best escape routes?(in case they jump in)
what can i use as a weapon?

i always aim for the nose first..many fights ive been in ended after they took a good blow to the nose..if im fighting dirty though things get different and a good kick to the no-no area ends it instantly

Don't talk too much. If you have to talk, try to keep your tongue contained inside your mouth. You don't want him to punch you if your tongue is beyond your teeth, because that could result in biting off your tongue.

Always be on guard, and stay quick on your feet.

If you have longish hair, make sure that before the fight, your hair is out of your eyes. Of course it will fall in the middle, but try to, for the most part, keep it back. It sucks to be blinded by your own friggin' hair.

If he has you pinned to the ground, relax all of your muscles. Then, channel all your energy into pushing him off and then rolling/getting back up.

When you punch, try to hit him with the top two knuckles. Also, a piece of advice my martial arts instructor told me was "Don't hit him. Hit through him." Pretend that you want to hit the air a few inches behind the area you are trying to hit. It makes your punches much more powerful, trust me. Also, try not to wind up your arm when punching. Don't bring your elbow more than a few inches behind your back, and only bring it back even that far if you have to.

If he aims a punch towards your stomach, clench your stomach muscles. Don't let yourself be knocked back -- take a step or two back so you don't lose your balance, but bend over his fist a little bit. If he's hunched over at all, pull down his head/back and try to get him offguard.

Make him lose his energy a little bit first. Instead of attacking right away, play defense for a little bit. When he's all sweaty and tired, he'll be easier. Of course, don't pass up a good opportunity for defense though.

I'm definitely not going to risk going defensive for the first bit, I dont want to get knocked out before I connect at least once, If I had some talent I would maybe try for some defense and tiring him out, but... I'm not nearly good enough to try something like that. Offense right off the start, I have pretty solid stamina, I do parkour if any of you people know what that is.

Okay, skinny and tall is ideal. Go for the body shots, he has no cusioning to protect him. Punch him in the side, go for right under his ribs, try and get an upward angle to cause the most damage. Since he is taller than you get as close as possible, hold him and punch him in the side as hard as you can and keep doing it, no only does that hurt but it wears people out. Once he starts getting tired, straight up tackle him. Sit on his chest with your knee in his stomach and punch him in the mouth and nose until someone pulls you off. There you are my brother....garunteed win.

Thats what I was thinking, except keep him standing as long as I can, I can take hits, but if I feel that I'm starting to lose I'll tackle him and start pounding, my grappling skills are far better than his, I have about 4 years in judo (wich I previously mentioned)

I took judo for a couple of years. But that's mostly defencive holds and sweeps. I say try to get him down ASAP. You're going to video tape this too BTW, right?

I've got to dig up some old videos of me boxing:). Did you read what I said about my neighborhood boxing matches? We have boxing tourneys every other day at lunch. Mostly only teenagers fight. It was made by the neighborhood watch to reduce gang violence, so that we could get out our anger in a controlled environment. I knocked this kid out the other day called Curtis....but I felt bad afterwards.:( Poor Curtis, he's actually pretty cool.

Doesn't matter if you train or not to fight. Fury/Impulses tell you what to do without thinking, either way, it goes pretty fast. (Depends.. what are you fighting? Street of in a Boxing Ring? <_<)

If you have no training of self control, you will never win a fight unless you are just plain stronger/bigger than the other person, in both cases he has a dis advantage.

I'm not too worried about the fight itself, I just want to feel prepared for it, if I lose, no big deal, its not like we are fighting over something important. Any advice on like stretching or anything before hand?

the leg stretch (Pulling it up behind you) wouldn't be laughed at, but pretty much anything else would.

Take headache meds, not to much though.

hahaha I'm not stupid, I would not stretch when everyones there, except the arm pull accross the chest, moving my neck around,and twisting my back, but like, even a couple hours in advance how should I stretch

The fight was originaly suposed to be about 5 hours ago, but unfortunately it had to be moved to monday at 9:00, and its a one on one.

I had a boxing match with a kid tonight at a party, he was an absolute tank bout about 4 inches shorter than me, I figured he would knock me out within 20 seconds, but I held on, and we decided to call it a draw cuz we were exhausted

Yep, street, I'm 5'10, 155 pounds, 15 years old, and have an athletic build, this kid is 6'1, about 125 pounds, 16 years old, basically a stick man, but lots of experience.

Get in close,


basically side hammer in the groin, and then knee him in the face. [either nose, or jaw]

after that you can pop back a cold one cuz the fight will be over. basically step like you're going to go around the side of your opponent, and then hit him with your fist out to the side. You're using your whole body weight, so make sure you make contact or you'll be off balance.
