Ok well I figured Why not make a list of games that pawn players could be

interested in that hold some similarity to pawn in order to spread the fun to

people who like these kinds of games.

RULES: Must be 2d, must be free, online multiplayer, and of course must be shooters.

Ok well a couple of them come to mind

1. Soldat (soldat.pl) Probably the most popular 2d shooter around, has a lot of hardcore followers and is always being updated and such.
Has many game types death match team match CTF are just a few(download)

2.Stick arena (stickarena.com) Top down shooter, most everyone knows about it, lots of hackers but still somewhat enjoyable.(browser)

3.LieroX (iworx5.webxtra.net/~lxallian/LXRS/) Side scroller like soldat and pawn. It is a remake of the game liero which was made for DOS and has a lot crusty veterans who have been playing the game for years. The main drawback is that the aiming is keyboard based (yuk) Tons of mods available and skins for your character, new user made levels and mods are made nearly weekly, which helps cover up for the bad aiming system.(Download)

4. Counter Strike 2d (cs2d.com) Top down shooter, and clone of counterstrike minus a dimension. Pretty fun game, can make your own maps, has an array of guns has explosives, but takes some getting used to as the people who play it regularly will own. The creator is working on a new version called cs2d max which will stop the hackers (even though hackers are not common)and add more content to the game.(download)

My ranking would go as follows:
1.) Soldat (I like it more than pawn, tons of explosions bullets flying across the screen, plus all weapons are equally powered, even has obstacle courses for those maze fans out there)

2.)Counter Strike 2d (Can fight bots if you get bored of online play, has a map maker so there is fresh levels out there, and can download other maps from fan sites.)

3.)Stick Arena (even with the hackers its not that bad, and pretty much no lag)

4.)LieroX (fun with mods and stuff but the pros can be snotty and kick you if they think you are a noob, and the aiming is not of my taste.)

Add to the list please!

Thanks

Soldat is pretty cool but the aiming reticule moves way to fast for me. Is their anyway to change that?

Under options on the bottom left you can change the mouse sensitivity.

Also make sure you have 1.4.1 version not 1.4

Any contributions?

I need help with cs2d. I downloaded it. But i cannot connect to the server. How do i update my firewall?

got this from the FAQ

I can't join a multiplayer game / nobody can join my server. What's wrong?

Check your firewall and router settings! Remember: Windows XP has got a
integrated firewall too! The default port of Counter-Strike 2D is UDP Port 36963. Counter-Strike 2D also uses the TCP Port 80 for the U.S.G.N.
Further information for firewall/router setup:
www.portforward.com
or at the website of your firewall/router manufacturer

so to open ports go into the firewall and then click exceptions then add program and add cs2d to allow it to connect, then hit add ports and allow the ports listed above.

Hope that helped

Isn't there a game called Warrock? I have no idea what it is, but my friend plays it. Does this qualify?

Ok, I have some information on A.R.C. or Attack Retrieve Capture.

It is top down, and you are in control of a battle ship, that is somewhat circular, almost like a flying saucer.

You start with a basic laser than has a bar that recharges, and 3 secondary weapons, that take time to charge up, they are: missle, grenade, and bouncy shot.

The players in most games seem pretty hardcore since they have played the game for around 5 years, but still its fun and I did manage to get a decent amount of kills.

It is a download, but really small.

Here is the site you download from, it also includes strategy guides, and a player guide for the basics, along with a forum.

I'll try soldat, but all the shooters I can think of are FPS and 3d.
