I've noticed buffoldguy uses a text-only signature to prevent major lag on the forums.
Now I know a lot of GFXers (including me) are laughing at that. But I still think we should try to have signatures using less than 40 KB of bandwidth.
I have already met that goal, and I will tell you guys how.
- Save in .JPG format using 95% quality. PNGs take almost twice as much room. My original MP3 player sig (56kb) turned into a 30kb file once I converted it to JPG. Then I saved it using only 95% quality. Even though 5% is a barely noticeable change (in terms of quality), my signature went from a 56kb file, to a 30kbfile and finally to a 15kb file! So my signature's bandwidth usage was cut threefold.
* If you are using PNG for transparency, fill in the transparent spots with #2a2a2a (the color of our posts)
- Do not use code boxes. Please stop using code boxes. The reason why signature sizes were introduced was to cut down on lag. Code boxes only reverse this. My suggestion to anybody using them is to show one signature and use thumbnails for the rest.
- If you are using GIF animations, you don't need to worry. Most GIFs are very small in size so they don't cause as much lag.

people will think whats the matter if one person wont do it? and they wont do it expecting everybody eles to, but theyll think the same thing, and when your a sig maker and stuff.. it will be to much hassle for alot of people

Agreed.
It will lag more if people don't crop the picture of the "screen shot." For example, people screen shotting a good game.
Also, we need something to tell people to crop their images before posting. It lags and takes a long time to load.

By the way, how do we know if it's lower than 25k Bandwidth? Do we right click?

Signatures don't take away bandwith, they have nothing to do with bandwith. They might cause slight lag, but that is all. I choose to keep my signature because it isn't too many KB.

Next time don't double post, just edit your original post. Hover over your picture in "My Pictures" And it should tell you everything.

I see no point in this.. VBulletin takes away most of the bandwith, there could be 100,000 members with 1MB signatures and nothing would happen. I've seen it happen in some communities and trust me, it has no effect.

Signatures do cause lots of lag and do take away bandwidth. Just not Pawn's bandwidth.

Yeah exactly. People don't crop their images before posting, which causes MAJOR lag.

You obviously don't know what bandwith is. Bandwith is the amount of traffic transmitted from the site. It has nothing to do with pictures or amount of KB the website has.. learn your vocabulary children.

Excuse me but it's you who needs to learn your vocabulary child. Bandwidth has everything to do with file size. Every time I load something that is 1MB in size from pawngame.com, I take 1MB of bandwidth from pawngame.com. So before you criticize others of providing "incorrect" information, you should learn the material yourself.
