Instead of having Line of Sight, which seems to cause a great deal of lag, make a new "weapon" of sorts: a cloaking device. It could be bought via the weapons screen (probably should be fairly expensive, like the heavy weapons). It would have a time limit, of corse (possibly displayed like your health bar), but could be "refiled" the same as ammo and health from an ammo crate.

There are a number of ways it could be implemented, to make it both effective and fair, these are the three ways i've come up with:

1) Instead of being completly invisible, the person would be displayd as transparent and very very hard to see, or as a faint outline. This way, there still effectivly invisible, but a skilled player can still spot them and have a chance of killing them.

2) Your completly invisible, but you become visible while you fire your weapon, and are still visible for a short time after words (ala Perfect Dark).

3) your visible while moving, but become completly invisible while standing still. effectivly, becomeing able to "camp" in plain sight.

what do you guys think?

you seem to be in a minority there. most threads i've read have been decidedly anti-LOS. also, there is the issue with the lag it causes. I understand the desire to have a stealth based game, i love idea... which is why i'm sugesting alternatives.

...rarw...arw...umm...yeah

The funny thing for me is, your reasoning behind giving a alternative to LOS is because the current version gives lag, but this seems like it would cause more lag. Instead of the code for LOS being in the regular code for the game and for everyone, it would be kept in a weapon itself and only for individual people. It seems like this would be more laggy, though I'm not a programmer so I guess I wouldn't know.

And the reason you see more "Get rid of the LOS" as opposed to "Keep LOS!" is because keeping a feature is not a suggestion.

So basically I'm against this because I don't think there's any problem with the way it's running now.

I dont have a problem with the idea of LOS, in fact, i think its really cool. it jsut seems to cause an awful amount of lag... more than any game feature is worth IMO. if you could get the game to run smoothly with it, then by all means, keep it. but if you want to keep something in your game, it should'nt be something that makes the game run poorly.

Also, LOS is not that good in an of itself. even though i cant see the players, more often than not, i can see the bullets fromt here guns, and still imediatly know where they are.

It's not LOS itself i have a problem with, its the problem it seems to cause to the playability of the game. A great feature, is a great feature, and a good idea is a good idea, but a great feature or a good idea that makes something run subpar is nither of those in the long run.
