Alright so I got this laptop about 2 years ago(Or year and half) and its been working fine until about a few months ago. About 3. But everytime I play something (Particually a game, watching videos, even scanning the computer for viruses) Yea, i cant even scan the computer for viruses. Even if I do itll be half way done and the laptop will turn off with a weird sound (Hard to descrive)

Im thinking that the laptop is overloaded so I deleted some stuff but that didnt work. So now I can barely watch any videos on youtube and i cant scan for viruses.

Another idea was overheating, but that failed completely and didnt have to do with anything.

so yeah, any help?

Post the specs. And the games your trying to play and also the virus software your using to scan.

My guess is that your low on ram.

Laptops dont have cooling systems.

They get warm, they shut down.

Does it completely turn off or does a blue screen pop up before it huts down?

It's not a RAM problem, a glitch like that would either not allow the program to run in the first place, or make you close the program, not shut down.

I'm guessing it's either a virus problem, or a power supply issue.

Sorry, but when it comes to computers, Im a noob. so how 9do i find the computer specs?

And the games can be anything, flash games(Including pawn), 3D games, or computergames.

It can play for awhile, but when it comes to a laggy point itll shut down. Or sometimes out of no where

And the virus scaner Im using is Norton

Laptops dont have cooling systems.

They get warm, they shut down. No laptops have fans which can ventilate and get some cool air in.

No it just completely turns off. Bam, black screen. But when I turn it back on it goes to check the disk drive.

It could be a virus, but if it was I think it would turn off when Im doing basic things such as typing this word or playing solitare.

Its not a power supply because

1. My laptop is always connected to the charger which is always connected to a power supply
2. The laptop can last 2:30 hours.
3. The laptop warns me if its low on power
4. If its about to die it goes into hybernation mode.

To find your computer specs open up windows explorer (Winkey + E) and then right click on 'My Computer' and click 'Properties'. Tell us how much RAM you got.

It's not a RAM glitch, I get those all the time on my parents computer (why i have my own) and all it does is either make the program not work, or shut it down, it never turns off the computer.

Buff, start your computer in safe mode, and try to run your anti-virus, and let me know what happens.

Oh my I hope he knows hot to start in safe mode.

Windows 2000

* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
* When you see the black-and-white Starting Windows bar at the bottom of the screen, start tapping the F8 key. The Windows 2000 Advanced Options Menu appears.
* Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected. In most cases, it is the first item in the list and is selected by default.
* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
* When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

Windows XP

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.

* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
* Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
* Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
* When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

To use the System Configuration Utility method

* Close all open programs.
* Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
* The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
* The computer restarts in Safe mode.
* Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer

Lol copy and paste

OMG THAT COULD BE IT LOLURGENIUSLOLHAHAHWTFLOLSPAM

Seriously, at first when i got the laptop i kept it on all day and when it shuts off it would be hot as hell.

And Ive had this for almost 2 years and for about a year ive been keeping it on for the whole day and now the motherboard could be screwed.

I think we need to call support and replace this...

Only thing that made me think of the motherboard is that this happened to me earlier this year.

if you have any local comp repair places like LOCAL not corporate repair shops go to them first and ask if they could repair it cause when my motherboard fried on my laptop they basicly charged me the cost of the laptop to get it fixed cause you know that without the motherboard your lappy isnt gonna do squat cept act like a fancy Xbox with the RoD on it :D and the corporate people know that too so they jack up the price.

Cost of my laptop
$800
Cost of motherboard when fried
$500

Fuze said that earlier..or maybe live

hey said that some laptops have no fans

no fans=overheat

Omnisweep

Even if you did have a fan going, leaving the lappy on ALL DAY would overheat it big time still.

But many either have a very small fan or no fan at all and just a vent

Then why my dad's lapton doesn't shut down?!?!?!

All i can say is this

1. your laptop is old...
2. If you use Vista on laptop...WOW THATS A GIANT BAD LUCK!!! Cause on vista games work a junk

BTW if your sick of BSOD get Macingeysh

You got BSoD? That changes everything. And I thought Strelok was a PC loyalist

Omnisweep
01-10-2008, 02:53 PM
ok wait...so it would just shut off randomly and/or you would get the BSoD?
If thats the case you might of fried the processor then. Which you would do easily if you left the computer on all the time like you said

buffoldguy
01-10-2008, 08:38 PM
Well its not necessarily bsod its just another blue screen.

Omnisweep
01-10-2008, 10:13 PM
you mean its just Blue Screen? No 'of Death'?
its either your board or your processor, you have 1 good paper weight on your hands right now till you get it fixed

Please go into start > run and type DXDIAG then on the screen that pops up, it gives your computer, model, ram, processor, etc. Please provide a screenshot of that, by that we can sort out the heating probelm, if it is one. There a LOT of laptops out there that can get REALLY hot, so hot it will burn you, (Mainly, Compaq's a few toshibas I know and MOSTLY Vaios) but still be safe to use. Provide that screen and we will go from there.

Update:

K so today I managed to fix it. So I played the game where it shuts down in like, 4 minutes so I tested it out and blam it was all good.

The problem was overheating, but nothing was fried. The fan on the laptop didnt work (The main one) At first I thought the fans were on the bottom, but thats where it gets the cold air and the main releases hot air.

So yea all i did was blow air on it a lot and it started to work.

I didnt have to do all that mumbo jumbo crap. XD
