Book Report: Rumble Fish
____________
The book I read was “Rumble Fish” by S.E. Hinton. She wrote her book in a flashback form, and it starts off by showing Rusty-James, the main character, being reunited with his old friend Steve. Although Rusty-James can’t remember what had been of him back when he was fourteen, the reunited Steve brings back the memories of his past.
The book’s first conflict starts when Rusty-James talks trash to Biff Wilcox, whom wants to kill Rusty-James because he talked trash to his girl about him. Rusty-James didn’t really care about Biff, but what was on his mind was his brother the Motorcycle Boy, who he admired dearly; so much that he wanted to be just like him. The Motorcycle Boy had been gone for two weeks and no one knew where he was. Everyone respected the Motorcycle Boy. Rusty-James and Biff were going to fight, but Rusty-James thought Biff was going to fight fair, but wrong did he think. Biff had brought a knife with him and was ready to cut Rusty-James without hesitation. Luckily, Rusty-James wrestled Biff to the ground, and got him to release the knife, by then, he was punching Biff’s face. Soon, the Motorcycle Boy came out of nowhere and surprised everyone with his existence. As Rusty-James looked at the Motorcycle Boy, Biff stabbed him. The Motorcycle saw what had happened and grabbed Biff’s wrist and broke it. At Rusty-James’ and the Motorcycle Boy’s house, the Motorcycle Boy was trying to heal the stab that Rusty-James had. During the healing, Rusty-James had asked the Motorcycle Boy where he’d been, and he said that he was in California.
Later on in the story, Rusty-James got expelled from school, and in the same day, his girlfriend, Patty, broke up with him because of a party at a lake he had been at with Smokey. She had thought he was cheating on her with a girl from the party. Fed up with his bad day, he went to find the Motorcycle Boy and asked him to hang out with him later. As they talked the Motorcycle Boy showed Rusty-James a picture of himself that was taken by a photographer. That night, Rusty-James had invited Steve to go with him as well. They went downtown across the bridge. Along the walk, Rusty-James had offered Steve some wine and Steve took some. At first Steve didn’t like the taste of it, but Rusty-James had told him that you get used to it after a while. They were bored and decided to go to the movie theatre, but the thing was that it was only for 18 years and up. The Motorcycle Boy went up and bought three tickets, and they entered like it was nothing. The Motorcycle Boy wasn’t interested in the movie, he was more interested in the people watching the movie, and Steve was wondering what the Motorcycle Boy saw in them. Rusty-James told them to watch the movie. Once Steve saw that it was a skin film, he got out of the movie theatre.

also this should be the topic sentence

They left and walked on, but there was a big crowd of people and they lost Motorcycle Boy. Steve and Rusty-James were semi-drunk and couldn’t find their way home, but they walked through alleys and found trouble. Two men who wanted to have money went up to Rusty-James and hit him with a board. Steve was helpless and Rusty-James wanted to do something, but found he was going unconscious. Once he regained consciousness, he feared for the worse of what had happened to Steve. He heard the Motorcycle Boy’s voice, and was relieved that someone had came to help them. By the time Rusty-James had woken up, it was 5:00 A.M.
Rusty-James had gone to the bar he went to every time and his ex-girlfriend, Patty had came in the bar, but she wasn’t looking for him. She was waiting for someone else. Then Smokey came in and sat next to her. Rusty-James told Smokey to speak outside of the bar with him, and once they were outside, Rusty-James had asked Smokey if he had planned the breaking up with Patty all along, and Smokey told him that he did. Smokey had told him that no matter what; they’d choose him as a gang leader before him. Rusty-James had gone to the pet store where the Motorcycle Boy was at, and he saw that he was staring at some fish. The pet store owner told him those were Siamese fighting fish and the Motorcycle Boy said “Rumble Fish.” Once Rusty-James had gone home with his brother, their father asked them what had happened to Rusty-James. He had a talk with Rusty-James and then Rusty-James asked his father about his mother, and one of the questions was why she left them and if she was crazy to do that. His father said that she left because when they were first married they were having lots of fun because they were young, but as they got older, she felt it was no longer fun and left. Rusty-James then asked about his brother, and why he was so different, his father told him that the Motorcycle Boy was “…in a glass bubble and everyone else was outside it.”
Later on that night, Rusty-James had followed the Motorcycle Boy into the pet store, and he was wondering why the Motorcycle boy would do that. He told him that if he wanted money to go to a liquor store, because they knew he was there earlier. The Motorcycle Boy didn’t hear him; he didn’t notice him either. The Motorcycle Boy was releasing all the animals and he looked at the Siamese fighting fish. That’s when Rusty-James started to cry, when he had never cried before. The police came and fired a warning shot, but the Motorcycle boy didn’t hear it because he was half deaf
