Okay there have been some threads asking you to state the better of each other so now I'm making the official poll for it! vote GIMP or Photoship w/e you want its your choice.

GIMP


Ups (good things)

-It's free!

-Allows you to make animations


Downs (bad things)

-Not for the simple minded pretty complicated for beginers.



Photoshop


Ups (good things)

-Pretty much head on easy to use

-You can make Grphics (GIF's)


Downs (bad things)

-Cost money

Gif doesn't mean graphics... gif is a format of image you can save your graphics in. >_>

I do believe your wrong. GIF is basically Graphic with it what would u save it as? so it basically falls in that category and is called a graphic. also read thread title Hydra is GIMP vs Photoshop not Flash vs GIMP vs Photoshop

No. .gif is a type of graphic. .bmp, .jpg, .tiff, .gif and .png, as well as some more are all actually just the same graphic, saved in different ways, to conserve file size/image quality.

A graphic is basically a picture. All those are types of pictures. And GIMP can save as .gif too, so *blam*

Yeah although GIMP is free Photoshop is way better. Photoshop can save gifs but can't save animated gifs. If you buy Photoshop you get another software called Imageready. Now Imageready can make animated gifs. Photoshop is only used to edit animations. Photoshop is also much more powerful than GIMP. All the graphics designers use Photoshop and Imageready. So if you can get Photoshp, I highly suggest it.

Gif is a type of graphics. It's a low quality graphic at that, that's why it's mainly used for animations.

Every single image editing software out there can make gifs. You don't specify whether you mean gif as in animation or gif as in a still picture. Make it more clear as to what you're saying.
