I'm posting this here so regular users can comment as well, and since you have already replied to a thread in this section.

Here I'll be suggesting functions that I and the other moderators need or are requesting to ensure that Zed remains somewhat as secure and well-monitored as Pawn and Pawn Tactics (not really) have been so far. Zed will be unlike no game you and JP have created before. It will be a role-playing game where a structure such as the Wall of China would be essentially useless since, as you said, it will require a lot of movement and exploration (key word: exploration). In order for players to have adequate room to explore, they will need a massive map, one that will make the largest maps on Pawn Tactics seem like the hiding spot where Dan stashes his marijuana. :p Hell, it will probably be around 1/8th of what Runescape's members' world looks like, and that's an underestimate.

However, such a large map will pose many challenges in terms of moderation. With so much area to cover, it will almost be impossible for a determined moderator, or even a small group of moderators to be able to catch a small majority of rule breakers. If you and several other moderators were chosen to keep Zed free of at least half of how many rule breakers it has on a daily basis, it would be a moderation nightmare. I'll admit, we can't even keep Lobby 1 of Pawn Tactics clear of spammers half the time. If we're going to have the same abilities (or lack of) on Zed that we have on Pawn Tactics, we might as well have no moderators.

Among the various ideas and suggestions that the moderators have suggested, there is one that stands out.

An IRC channel where all text messages are sent.

We already have such a system in-place for Pawn, and we have used it to great success before. Without it, we wouldn't have a great example such as foot1211's anti-swearing bot would have never existed. It took much of the workload off already stressed moderators by successfully catching hundredsof people caught swearing or spamming.

Likewise, if you implement such a system for Zed, we can easily control the constant stream of text messages.

I know you couldn't implement one for Pawn Tactics, because the workload was too strenuous. However, with Zed being this massive, not implementing such a feature is like removing half the classes from Pawn Tactics. Moderation for Zed will simply be non-existent, also putting in consideration that moderators have many other tasks to deal with, they usually only have 10 or 20 minutes of spare time to patrol around the massive neighborhood that will be Zed, and they won't patrol in a fast police cruiser, without what I just suggested, it will feel like they're patrolling in a wheelchair or kiddy bike.

Forget a mod panel for Zed, just have an IRC channel and we'll take care of the rest ourselves. Neo, Firstmate, and I can code scripts using mIRC, PHP, or a modified version of PJIRC which can all be used to perform functions such as detecting multis, spam, swearing, advertising, etc... Also, a while ago I myself created a control panel for Pawn Assistants where they could simply click the name of a person swearing, spamming or whatever was thrown at them as they were sending messages, type a few letters, press enter, and kick them off. The control panel did virtually everything, from automatically typing out long names, typing out commands, and also typing out entire sentences (used for helpful purposes) with a few clicks.

Both are pointless if we can get an IRC channel. That will allow a single mod or bot to monitor all text messages sent anywhere.

Definitely.

I will focus on the three most used spamming "techniques".

1) Just sending random messages rapidly.
2) Copy and pasting.
3) Sending extremely long messages slowly.

Nice idea. Moderators could also possibly have a birds-eye view of the map and have the ability to go over the map to view all players.

Is the red one really one of them? Because I usually use this one to explain things to people.

BTW: Nice idea. But for some reason I think that there's something wrong with it.

good plan this seems better than just having normal mods around even if you were to add alot more of them theres no way to cover the whole place fully and control every rule breaker.

i have a question, if this map is going to be as big as you say how will it work?
shall you make it fully roaming like pt? i think if it were to be like that it might cause some severe lag problems and such. so i suggest making it screened off like pg so you travel to diffrent sections and play it out that way.
(all just suggesting even if your planing this anyway)
how will the respawn work?
will there be difrent areas you can chose to spawn at? or for a fun idea have it so you must go out far enuf to unlock spawning places and the farther you go the harder it gets (it will help thin out the noobs from the good players and theres no way to padd nad get there through cheating (giving the noobs a reson to try for real))
or will the respawn just be a one place deal were you start there go out as far as you can till you die and come back?
therdly what happens when you log off? ive played a simaler form of the idea for ZED in a game called dead frontier and in that game when you log off you get stuck were you last were and come back there latter? i personaly think thats retarded but you might think diffrent...
my final question is are there going to by more maps later on or just sticking with one? it might not matter if you only have one if its as big as you say it is

Ghost Police Cars that can drive through zombies and walls, without clipping. With sausages that fly out and ban people when struck.

Or mods could go into mod mode where they just move around the map with the arrow keys without their character, this way they could patrol greater areas and move more quickly... Just a thought ;)

So with the irc channel would that mean you would have someone 24/7 on it? Might cause a problem. Also, when using the channel, if someone is kicked, will their data be saved from that point?

An IRC channel is the same thing as an AIM or MSN chat room, except using a different way to connect. No "data" will be lost if anybody is kicked. It's just text messages.

I HATE going to the IRC...

We should just get police cars or something. srsly.
It's possible to have a mod receive commands from moderators in-game. That way you never have to log onto IRC, although a police car would be pretty boss.

No I meant if everything someone said in a game, went to an irc, and a mod saw it. If a person in the gamed got kicked by mod who saw what he said, then would he be autosaved or lose his stats?

I have a idea and im not a noobie for this 1 but like the moderators should have a seperate program that they have to download but what that does is it can see the whole chat including whispers if they have them and they can check that while they are playing zed and if they catch spamming swearing flaming etc. etc. and just on that program has a mod panel so they can ban people and if they have different chats they can switch in that program to that chat Or they could have certain mods in sections of zed and if the mod needs something from another mods section like an item etc etc that mod in that section can switch and tells that mod thats coming what happened and all that crap

Maybe you mods should get a download-able program that flashes in the "browser bar (very bottom of the screen)" whenever it detects a hacker/rule-breaker/etc..?
Like a little "Notepad" that is kind of like a IRC-pannel and it will show the reason(s) and then you can simply click their name and a small part of the screen (like the bottom right corner or something) will show:

Ban User (length)[options: Permanent/(#)hour/(#)minutes/(#)day/(#)week/(#)month/until -->{pannel opens up with day/month/year}]
Reason for warning/ban: (goes directly to the MOD pannel on the forum so all Mods can see why/change)
Reason shown: (the reason emailed/message-sent to the the user of why they were banned/warned)
Kick user: (from the game as a warning -- like on PG how a screen says "You have been kicked by [name] Reason: [reason])

Sounds okay, but how about each mod gets a separate section of "The ZED World", and takes care of it? ZED probably will need more moderators, and therefore NEW moderators, or make the good PA's mods.

Or just make everyone a mod.

good idea maybe we should add a report player thingy to the game so mods can enjoy the game but can also keep up with the things in the panel so it's like an extra e mail with a auto screenie of where there at. plus I haven't seen a mod en joy a game without someone saying something about other players

The problem with that would be everyone banning other people for no apparent reason.
And hackers would ban the people who banned them, so, therefore, that is a horrible idea.

that would be true and also people would be getting banned because they just killed a person or because someone knows another person and hates them or just wants to be better ranked than them.

the mods would also be irresponsible people and they would be wrecking the fun for all the other players.

I think we should just make clones of mods, that are invincible and can kick/ban users for whatever reason. While the mods than can make them, (the ones that can), such as Cobra/Firstmate.

Just a thought... With a third game in hand, wouldn't you need more mods?

Jessica, you have think though. With the new game coming out, activity in the other two games will considerably drop for a while.
