Women and children first?

A popular statement said is women and children first, meaning that women and children go before men. Do you believe in that statement or do you think its bs.
Example:
Picture your in your 20's and your in a burning bulding at a crowded staircase would you wait and let women and children go first, or would you just make a run for it?

I would always try and save a child before myself. I mean a child like pre-school age and stuff, not a 15 year old, unless the 15 year old can't escape. The same goes for a woman. If they can save themselves, they better move on because I'm gone.

If it's an elderly person or child, I would let them go first. If it's a woman I know I would let her go first. Any woman I don't know can run right behind me.

I think I would let a child or someone that would have trouble escaping first. I would naturally want to let women out after wards though, but unless I'm certain I'll be safe then I'm gonna hit the road. lol >_>
