I have an avatar but i dont know what type of file it has to be any help?

Just go to user cp, then edit avatar. Paste the link in and you have your avatar.

If it is a file, click choose file and it can be jpg, gif, etc.. and if you do this, it cannot be larger than 100 by 100 pixels or 80.0 KB.

Users can't have very big avatars. So if it's animated just forget it. It needs to be in recognizable format:

Uploading it to photobucket and pasting the link works a lot better.

I downloaded my avatar, off of a site, that has them specifacally for avatars. all I had to do, is dowload it, got to edit avatar, uploaded it, and hit save. What all did you do, to get where it is right now?

well i made it in photoshop and saved it but its a file i might save it to photobucket that might help

Once you do that get the link and paste it in the box and you are set.
