Cocaine found in Red bull

BERLIN — Six German states have told retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after a test found a trace amount of cocaine.

The bans started Friday after a sample test conducted by authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia state found 0.4 micrograms per liter in the drink.

Five other states also banned it from shops amid concerns over possible narcotics law violations.

Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment said Monday that the cocaine level was too low to pose a health risk. It planned to produce a more detailed report Wednesday.

Red Bull said its cola is "harmless and marketable in both the U.S. and Europe." It said similar coca leaf extracts are used worldwide as flavoring, and a test it commissioned itself found no cocaine traces.

Yeah that is what the name Coke comes from.

That was like way back in the day though. . before anyone even knew what that stuff was. Once everyone knew it was bad for you it was removed.

Ignorance doesn't make you look any smarter. The amount of cocaine you need to add in a beverage that could kill you is immense. By the first drink you would know something is up and probably call your doctor, unless your seriously dumb.

Adding the cocaine may lower the to 40, still very improbable.

Probably the same to be honest, you would process the coke much faster than the drink itself.

0.4 grams is not enough to kill you. But it is enough to add a slight addictive quality to the drink. Not enough to make people dependent on it so they will go through withdrawal if they stop, but enough to cause a slight urge that gets them to buy it more.

i don't think any of you quite grasp how small .4 micrograms really is. that is less than half of 1/1,000,000th of 1 gram. To visualize, common objects that weigh one gram are a paper clip and dime. Try to imagine a millionth of a paper clip. now imagine about half of that. Can you? doubt it. Can .4 micrograms of cocaine harm you? NO.

Just a matter of preference. You don't see alcohol or cigarettes being banned, even though the stuff that's legal is the worst for you.

Anyway, let's look at what cocaine is. Cocaine is a chemical derived from the leaves of the coco plant. Much like tobacco or caffeine. It is much like all other psychoactive compounds we consume on an almost daily basis. Of course, this does not question the law, what it does do is question people who will now refuse to drink red bull because someone found cocaine in it.

It's only a VERY small amount though, I mean 0.4 micrograms? One line of coke is like 0.05 - 0.1 of a gram, and this is 0.0000004 of a gram lol? As if they would ban it because of that.
