Definitely worthy of being called one of the best games I've ever played. Just all around a fantastic game. Don't ever sell it, ever!

Above post is 100% true :D

IMO the best things to do is start off by putting most of your skill points towards Energy Weps, Lockpicking, and Science....little bit towards Medicine if you want your Stimpacks to be really good but i never really needed to.
About around lvl 7ish start putting it in just lockpicking and science for doors and terminals. Cause by then you will have pretty good energy weps and with one of the quests(The Replicated Man) you get Harkness' A1-L3 Plasma Rifle which is almost as epic as the Vengence Gatling Laser :D...+ near the end of the game you have access to the Enclave's Tesla Armor(+10(or +20 i dunno) to Energy Weps) plus you can find the Energy Wep Bobblehead which is another +10 so right there with those 2 you get a +20

its the best game ever. addicting. Don't ever explore. That way all the stuff will surprise you and you wont take it all in at once.

well leaving the vault is part of the storyline so you cant help that...killing Amata's dad just changes a small pointless part of a side quest further down the game.
And V.A.T.S i think was kinda pointless unless you are trying to disable a Deathclaw's legs so it cant charge at you(you will HATE these things with a passion later in the game Dark) or getting a 1 shot head shot against a charging ferral ghoul

No, Morrowind and oblivion had a much better combat system than Fallout.
ummmmm they basicly have the same system O_o

The point of the VATS combat system was to make it less like FPS combat. Also your shooting is always more accurate in VATS and you can only do critical hits in VATS.

No, Morrowind and oblivion had a much better combat system than Fallout.

Fallout is an RPG, not an FPS. The point of what makes an RPG fun is it's role-playing gameplay, not the combat gameplay.

The developers said themselves that they added VATS to remove the aspect of FPS-style combat.

Wrong, you can do critical hits outside of VATS too

Huge world to explore and it was lots of fun wandering for hours through a post-nuclear war wasteland. Lots of unique things you can do to make it feel like your own journey, not one guided by the developers. Only complaints were some glitches and the combat system grew a little old after a while (but never got plain boring, like it does with turn-based fighting games sometimes). Otherwise, probably one of the best games ever made imo.

The VATS was overdone, although I never use it cause I ALWAYS have the Sniper out, and Sniper + VATS = Ultra fail.

But, like Jfella said, running around in a huge environment, with real consiquenses for your actions, and a game that you actually have to take care of yourself, /WIN.

Microsoft really got called out on this one, probably the most anticipated game of the 2008/2009 year, and dang did they deliver.

When the hell did I call it an fps?

The combat system blows, period. Oblivion was much more balanced in terms of RPG-Combat.

I never said you called it an FPS. I'm saying that VATS was added to remove any significant aspect of FPS combat. My friend had a Game Informer magazine and I read a Fallout 3 article. The developers said themselves that that was the point of VATS.

They aren't even related. Though they were made by the same company, The Elder Scrolls focuses most(if not all)of its combat on magic, swords, etc. Fallout 3 focuses on guns. Not to mention they are set in totally different time periods.

By the way DS, how much did you get Fallout 3 for? I'm planning on getting it.

Eh, I payed about 54.99 for the used Fallout 3 at GameStop. The Fallout 3 that hasn't been used is 59.99.

You obviously didnt understand what i was saying. The combat style of both Oblivion and Fallout3 are the same(minus the VATS).

Spiritual energy. Well, at least in games.

I had bought the Collectors Edition of Fallout 3. O.o Go Vault-Tec Bobbleheads!

For new starters, personally you should max out your lockpicking first, and then cap your science skill at 50. Go with the Small guns build, as most weapons you will find from enemies are in that category.

VATS will be extremely deadly with the Small Weapons tag thing..

Wrong, I was comparing the combat system of the two games in relation to the timeline and storyline of each.
Middle Aged timeline+story = Oblivion thus the use of Magic and Swords
Modern timeline+story = Fallout3 thus the use of Energy Weps and Sledges

notice the similarity of the combat relative to the timeline?
if not then you are a hopeless cause in the world
