I have always been wondering if the word pwned derived from pawn. I do remember before pwned ever becane popular, people would say in the chat. I PAWNED HIM. (Only for beta and realise date people to understand). Just a thought..... :\

Well, I had never heard of it before I came to Pawn.
So, I think that it must be derived from Pawn.
Then again I might be wrong, but that's is just my opinion.

It didn't come from Pawn itself, in fact, I don't know where it came from. But I know it didn't come from Pawn because I'd heard it around before I even came to or heard of Pawn in the first place, lol.
Maybe Pawn just needed a catchy, easy to remember name, and was good, and everyone knew it. And a term of owning. O:

Well, pwned is a really dumb word in the first place. It just could've of hurt to at least ask if pwned and pawned were the same. DAMN! Just look at the two words. Only thing missing is the A.

I heard that there was a glitch where in halo, when you killed someone, it would say that you pwned them, wile it was meant to say owned.

Notice the p and o are close together on the keyboard.

Erm, when I had a PS2 and played online, I heard "pwned" from other people. I got my PS2 in 2002 and played online on it. i just don't think the phrase was started here.

It derived from owned, pronounced "powned", it means owned, but like, personally owned. As in, if I killed some player in a cool way, he would be owned, but if this player non-stop told me he was better, then I kept killing him non-stop, he'd be pwned. I rarely use either term though, they've lost popularity.
