So you're in 10th grade I am guessing? Cause I am in 11th grade and we did this crap last year. Don't really remember it all thoroughly but I'll try.

Using your prior knowledge. Make a list of all of the possible hazards faced by a soldier in the trenches.

Poison Gas (there was a certain kind back then (I'm guessing this is on World War 1) but I don't remember the name, google it yourself.)
Grenades
Getting shot (if they even popped there head out of the trench they would probably get shot)
Sleeping conditions
Bad weather
There was this attack type back when the war technique was trenches were the people would get out of the trench and try to sprint to the other country's side and attack them up front. This was very, very, dangerous. High chance you would die when you did this.
Friendly fire
Planes shooting you (not sure, probably not =/)

Can't think of anything else right now. Like I said I kinda only have a vague memory of it. Hope it helped you in some ways though. :)

Also mention the threat of the enemy digging under your trenches and planting explosives. We did it to the Germans, there were 21 placed under the German trenches, and only 16 went off when they were meant to. One blew up in a farmer's field in the 60's during a storm, and I think some are still missing :P

Lmfao. Sounds a tad dangerous xD

We did some stupid things back then to achieve so much.

Edit: Yeah include what DaMan said. I included some of the non-obvious ones :p

its called mustard gas if that's what you were thinking of and DaMan, trench warfare was experienced in world war 2 if I'm not mistaken

also a big thing was TRENCH GUNS (a.k.a sawed off shotgun with a bayonet often attached, these did imminence damage to the enemy and were great for the close quarters, only other major "gun threat" was an enemy sniper this was the time where their was ACTUAL accuracy with guns and even true scopes, this also started making ranked officers stop wearing their uniform because of the accuracy a sniper could go unnoticed and wait for only ranking officers to cause chaos in the ranks

Aside from what everyone else said, there was the conditions of the trenches themselves. Dead bodies, fecal matter, etc.

It was WW1..

Trench warfare was basically over after the invention of tanks (after or late WW1).

Constant shellfire, a sniper's bullet, being buried alive under soil when sides of trenches collapsed, rats spread disease (millions infested trenches, they could grow to the size of a cat), overflowing latrines, infection and disease.

Rats were by no means the only source of infection and nuisance. Lice were a never-ending problem, breeding in the seams of filthy clothing and causing men to itch unceasingly.

Lice caused Trench Fever, a particularly painful disease that began suddenly with severe pain followed by high fever. Recovery - away from the trenches - took up to twelve weeks. Lice were not actually identified as the culprit of Trench Fever until 1918.

Frogs by the score were found in shell holes covered in water; they were also found in the base of trenches. Slugs and horned beetles crowded the sides of the trench.

Many men chose to shave their heads entirely to avoid another prevalent scourge: nits.

Trench Foot was another medical condition peculiar to trench life. It was a fungal infection of the feet caused by cold, wet and unsanitary trench conditions. It could turn gangrenous and result in amputation.
